County Farm Bureau Members, Legislators Connect Over Breakfast Meetings
February kicked off a Massachusetts Farm Bureau Federation (MFBF) tradition, where County Farm Bureaus hosts breakfasts for their legislators and farmer members. During these gatherings, farmers discuss issues that are important to them with their local legislators.
“The relationships that our members build with their legislators at these kinds of events are invaluable,” said MFBF President Mark Amato. “When our members talk with their representatives about concerns, they are paving the way for our organization to have future productive conversations with that same legislators about farm concerns. These breakfasts are an important platform for our members, their legislators and our organization as a whole.”
These legislative breakfasts lead up to an event called Agricultural Day at the Statehouse, which this year is set to be help on March 25. This event is marked with a speaking program and a closed reception, during which legislators can talk one-on-one with farmers. The food for the reception is all locally-sourced and is prepared by Assabet Valley Technical High School.
“Ag Day is a truly unique event, where we see all kinds of farmers band together and become advocates for the industry,” Amato said. “This day keeps agriculture in the forefront of legislators’ minds and brands Massachusetts agriculture as collaborative, engaged and an important piece of the Commonwealth’s economy.”
