Young Farmers & Ranchers 2013 Excellence in Agriculture Award Information

Background

The Young Farmers & Ranchers (YF&R) Excellence in Agriculture Award competitive event is designed as an opportunity for young farmers and ranchers to earn recognition, while actively contributing and growing though their involvement in Farm Bureau and agriculture. Participants will be judged on their involvement in agriculture, leadership ability, and participation/involvement in Farm Bureau and other organizations (i.e., civic, service and community). The ideal candidate(s) for the Excellence in Agriculture Award is an individual or couple who does not have the majority of his/her income subject to normal production risk. It is recommended that the state Farm Bureaus provide, as part of the state recognition and award, an expenses-paid trip to the AFBF Annual Meeting held Jan. 12-15, 2013, in San Antonio. Appropriate recognition will be given to all national competitors in attendance at the AFBF Annual Meeting. The AFBF YF&R Committee and the AFBF Organization Department will coordinate the program at the national level.

The Massachusetts Farm Bureau Young Farmers & Ranchers Achievement Award Program is an annual competitive event. Selection of the winning competitor is based on his/her efforts in production agriculture, leadership ability, and involvement and participation in Massachusetts Farm Bureau and other organizations.

MFBF Young Farmer & Ranchers Committee

The Young Farmer and Rancher Committee is made up of Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18-35 we are engaged in agriculture or the equine industry. The objective of the YF&R program is to provide leadership in building a more effective Farm Bureau and preserve our individula freedoms and expand our opportunities in agriculture.

General Information

The MFBF works with young farmers and helps them grow through action. The YF&R helps young farmers acquire cutting edge information through participation in educational conferences; build a network with fellow farmers, ranchers and agricultural enthusiasts; earn recognition for their achievements in busines excellence and leadership success; and continue their professional development and personal growth.

The YF&R Committee also helps young farmers lead through service. This includes providing workable solutions for issues affecting agriculture, influencing public policies that affect agriculture now and in the future, stepping up and telling the story of agriculture, and serving their communities by volunteering and making a difference.
